Mugwump Productions Launches Event Furniture Division

Mugwump Productions is proud to announce the launch of a new event furniture rental division. Mugwump is currently known for their event décor services including theme décor, 3-D props, casino parties, wedding décor and custom decor for corporate meetings and functions. Mugwump has experienced success with recent inventory additions including chiavari, bamboo and white folding chairs and will now look to service the Jacksonville event industry’s ever growing need for event furniture rentals.

ImageFor years, Jacksonville meeting and event planners have had to pay exorbitant delivery fees while renting event furniture from the nearest suppliers in Orlando. While our investment is significant, we feel we’re stepping up and satisfying a demand that’s been on the rise here in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida for far too long. The response from clients and business partners so far has been tremendous, says Joe Sampson, Mugwump’s general manager and vice president of marketing for parent company Sight & Sound Productions.

Mugwump Productions is a Jacksonville based, full service event décor services company serving Northeast Florida since 1992. Mugwump is a subsidiary of Jacksonville based Sight & Sound Productions. For more information or to contact Mugwump Productions, please visit www.mugwumproductions.com.

2011: Sight & Productions Year in Review

Thank you to all our valued clients and partners for your support in another outstanding year of growth at Sight & Sound Productions! We’re happy to report that we’ve seen double digit growth for the second consecutive year and we’re setting up for some big things in 2012. We know we couldn’t do any of this without you so thank you from the bottom of our hearts! But before we get too far into next year, our owner and executive team took a few minutes to reflect on what they felt were some of the biggest positives we experienced as a company in 2011.

“Purchasing the remainder of the business from our founder, Curt Hubbard marked the culmination of a great deal of hard work and dedication for me and for my family. I’ve been able to focus myself wholly on growing this business while remaining true to our commitment to providing our clients with top-notch service and cutting edge productions. Since the purchase, I’ve been working to put into place a platform for comfortable growth while making strategic purchases and pursuing some new opportunities. There are exciting things on the horizon here at our companies!” –Jon Davis, Owner and CEO

“Several companies in our business have closed their doors over the past couple of years due to financial hardship. I’m extremely proud that we’ve not only continued to increase our gross revenue and our bottom line but we’ve done it while making quite a few large capital purchases. There are many things to which we can accredit this success but no matter how you spin it, we’re growing and we’re headed in a positive direction!” –Tom Best, Vice President of Operations

“One of our key focuses coming into 2011 was a rebranding of our companies while focusing on some key target-marketing and web/social initiatives. While we’re always looking to improve in these areas, I’m delighted to report that we’ve seen some tremendously positive results for our 2011 efforts in this department. Our metrics are trending upward and our responses rates have grown tenfold. We’ve got some challenges in 2012 with the plans we’re soon rolling out as a team but I’m excited to take it on and thrilled to see us go to the next level.” –Joe Sampson, Director of Marketing & Business Development, Sight & Sound Productions and Managing Director, Mugwump Productions

“For the past couple of years, I’ve focused my long-term sales efforts on producing shows from coast to coast. I’ve seen some successes here and there but nothing compared to what we encountered in 2011. Working with the marketing team, we were able to target some key markets outside the Jacksonville area that generated a great deal of new business – especially in the way of branding tours. Combined with growth from our loyal Northeast Florida based client base, we saw extraordinary increases in an otherwise down market. We already have numerous road shows on the books for 2012 and will even be working internationally – it’s going to be an exciting year!” –Alfredo Garcia, Vice President of Sales

“In 2010, we purchased Mugwump Productions, a well-known area theme event décor and prop company that complimented our then service offerings superbly. With the company still flat in 2011, I decided to place Joe Sampson, our director of marketing at the helm of the company. Since doing so, Mugwump has seen tremendous growth and is quickly expanding into a well-rounded, full service event décor services company with numerous new areas of specialty. This will continue to be a point of focus for us as a company while we expand our service offerings and move forward into what is sure to be a prosperous 2012. –Jon Davis, Owner & CEO

ImageWe could go on for quite a while about all the positives we experienced in 2011 and they all end in the same place – continued growth and expansion for our family of companies. As we move forward into 2012 and begin executing more big plans, one thing will remain true. No matter how much we grow or how far some of our teams might be away from Jacksonville at the time, every client working with us will continue to receive exceptional service and stellar, progressive shows from our outstanding team of event professionals. Thank you once again for another great year – we hope yours was even better!

Keeping The Women Of Jacksonville Healthy

This past weekend, Sight & Sound Productions had the pleasure of working with and underwriting in part Jacksonville’s local public broadcasting station, WJCT on “Speaking of Women’s Health”. The event raised awareness about important women’s health issues from breast cancer screening to overall diet and nutritional advice. With uplifting seminars and an atmosphere of encouragement, WJCT offered women the opportunity to learn and grow together.

Dei Griffin, Sight & Sound Production’s business manager who attended the event, described how the production company understands the importance of raising awareness about women’s health. “Sight & Sound isn’t just providing event production services for a client. We are here striving to create a memorable experience that celebrates and promotes education so everyone can make the right decisions about their body.”

LED lighting, audio, video and decor were a few of the services that were provided at the event. The fern centerpieces were popular among guests and the natural accents softened the event space. Sight & Sound is always glad to work with community organizations and this event is most certainly no exception.

PLOTting Your Attack: CAD and Lighting

As a lighting designer it can be a challenge to design a large show and really “picture” what the final event will look like.  This is when the wonderful world of CAD comes in to play.  CAD isn’t just for architects and civil engineers anymore. Programs like Vectorworks can alter how you attack a design from a 150 fixture full blown, rockin’ concert, to a smaller, one-act play.

Programs like Vectorworks give you a visual representation of your lighting rig, while assisting you in the delicate design process. This includes complex operations such as a gel cut sheet displaying information on how many gels you need, what color, and the size of the gel needed.  You can also generate information on how you patch your console, both on the hard and soft patch side. The invaluable information that Vectorworks provides can really take your planning, design, and execution to the next level.

A copy of Vectorworks 2011 will set you back around $2,000.00 and is not for the novice designer.  But don’t worry! Programs like LuxArt are free and simple to use. LuxArt gives you many of the features Vectorworks offers while giving you the benefit of a streamlined user interface. These programs have many options and can be very powerful when used properly. For more information on CAD programs and design contact Sight & Sound @ 904-645-7880.

Happy PLOTting!

This past weekend, Mugwump Productions and parent company Sight & Sound Productions worked with the City of Jacksonville on the always-popular World of Nations festival at Met Park. This event celebrated the diversity of culture throughout the globe while offering guests the unique experience of learning about various countries and sampling savory cuisines.

World of Nations displayed the core similarities among humankind. Energetic flamenco dancers and fiery Chinese dragons created a festive atmosphere filled with a vast spectrum of color and excitement.

Gobos:Painting With Light

Gobos have been in used in the corporate event and entertainment industry for as long as I can remember. I can distinctly recall being a part of productions in church as a child where blue clouds, the sun and flashes of lightning were incorporated into various sets.  I always thought it was so amazing that these patterns and effects could be produced with light and projected onto any surface.

Almost 20 years later, as a lighting designer at Sight and Sound Productions, I use gobos on a regular basis. Gobos we use can range from custom corporate logos to breakup patterns that can truly transform an entire room. I have always enjoyed using these tools of the trade because they allow me to be flexible with a design element and well….I can project the patterns anywhere my heart desires!

Some might wonder, “What exactly is a gobo?” A gobo is a circular steel, metal or glass device (with a cutout design) that is placed inside of a lighting instrument and recreates the design in light on a much larger scale. The design can be produced by simple white light or it could even be a full color HD picture.  Pretty cool huh?
